I have recently joined Peopletoo and I am excited to get started to help make lasting change for people. Having worked in three different local authorities in a variety of roles in Children’s, Adults and Public health services during the decade of austerity, I have firsthand experience of the challenges councils continue to face. Increases in demand and complexity of the people we work with, and the associated financial pressures has created a supremely challenging environment where we feel that we are constantly fighting fires. As a result, we have little time to make sustainable improvements to our services – even though we know this is often needed to ensure the best outcomes for the people we support and ensure public money is being well spent.
We know things can be better but it is difficult to find the time to bring in genuine long lasting change needed. That’s why I joined Peopletoo – we offer the space and expertise to identify solutions that not only bring about financial savings but most importantly improve the lives and outcomes of the people we work for. From my experience, what makes Peopletoo unique is the genuine partnership working ethos they have. Complimenting and adding to your brilliant teams, providing constructive challenge and supporting with solutions that can bring about that positive change needed. We work with you in partnership to truly co-produce long lasting, sustainable change, ensuring we involve the people who use our services, genuinely listening to their insights and working together, to put forward solutions. While also making sure we have a genuine exit strategy in place to sustain the changes once we’ve left.
I bring my skills, knowledge and experience to Peopletoo of what it is really like working in challenging local government. I have worked at various levels within councils, most recently as head of service for children’s strategic commissioning at Southend on Sea City Council, so I can relate to, and work through, the real stresses, challenges and opportunities faced on a daily basis. I hope that these skills will enable me to build on the great work happening across the country to bring about improvement to a variety of organisations and people they work for.
So what keeps you up at night? Increasing costs of homes for children we care for? Delayed discharge? Not sure you’re making best use of assets? Commissioning and market management? CQC assurance? Home to school transport? Or do you need whole system transformation to bring about improvements needed?
I’m really looking forward to supporting Peopletoo’s clients with these challenges and working in partnership across local government functions, tackling that ‘too hard pile’ together!
